What is an Instagram MCP server?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard AI apps use to plug into other software. An Instagram MCP server lets an assistant like Claude or ChatGPT read your Instagram data and act on it, such as listing leads or setting up an automation, through tools you approve.
Does it work with ChatGPT as well as Claude?
Yes. The same URL works in Claude (web, desktop and mobile), ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and any app that speaks MCP. You sign in on an Autogram screen and click Allow; there is no API key to paste.
Can the AI send DMs on its own?
No. It never messages anyone directly: a DM only goes out when someone comments your keyword on an automation you have running. The AI acts only on what you ask in your own chat. A simple automation you ask it to create goes live straight away, a multi-step flow waits as a draft until you say publish, and one request pauses anything. Nothing a commenter types can reach these tools: DMs are lead data, never instructions.
Is it safe for my Instagram account?
